Maverick's Legacy is a 501c3 non-profit started by Kimberly and Darrin Chambers, in memory of their son, Maverick Scott Chambers. Maverick tragically passed away April 23, 2022, at just 4 months and 26 days old from a choking accident.
We are dedicated to honoring the memory of Maverick by creating a positive impact on our community. Our mission is to promote infant and child safety through awareness and education, and to support families who have experienced the devastating loss of a child.
We strive to reduce preventable choking deaths and injuries by providing LifeVac devices to schools and first responders, and by spreading awareness about the importance of infant and child safety. Through our efforts, we hope to empower parents and caregivers with the knowledge and tools they need to protect their children from harm.
In addition to our safety initiatives, we are committed to supporting families in their grief by offering acts of kindness and support. We believe that by coming together as a community, we can honor Maverick's legacy and make a positive difference in the lives of others.
At Maverick's Legacy, we are driven by our passion for helping others and our desire to make the world a safer, more compassionate place.
As of October 2024 we have donated over 980 LifeVacs !

A few months ago we donated a LifeVac to a special needs school in Livingston, NJ. Today we were informed that they recently used it to save a 16 year old boy during a choking emergency when he started to choke on chicken. Two staff members attempted life saving measures, but when the abdominal thrusts were not working, the school nurse jumped into action with the airway clearance device and saved him.
We are so thankful for the opportunity to make a difference in memory of our son, Maverick. We now have 5 lives saved in his honor!

August 5th was an emotional day at the NJ State Fair
We met the Cook Family, who thankfully listened to Maverick’s story and purchased a LifeVac earlier this year to keep their family safer. Zachary, their youngest, had a choking emergency in June 2023 and was rescued by his parents using their LifeVac after Heimlich protocols failed to clear his airway. We are so grateful that these brothers get to grow up together because of this wonderful, lifesaving invention! Zachary’s mother, Chelsea, said, “So beyond grateful to have hugged you guys today! Can’t express how thankful we are for Maverick. Our hero forever.”
We were invited to the NJ Fifth District “Hometown Heroes” Awards hosted by Rep Josh Gottheimer on Friday, December 15, 2023. We accepted the award in tribute to Maverick, as The Chambers Family.
It was an honor to receive the award for the work we have done to raise awareness for choking hazards and rescue options. Our role in saving a local boy's life was highlighted; his parents had purchased a LifeVac after hearing Maverick's story and were able to use it to save him after back blows failed to clear his airway in June 2023.
We sincerely hope this is just the beginning of Maverick's Legacy and encourage everyone to be more prepared in case of a choking emergency. Our goal is for every first responder to have access to these lifesaving tools.
Together we can save a life!
You can watch the full video of the ceremony with this link. We are at the 1:09 mark, if you'd like to watch us receive the award.
Maverick's mom, Kim Chambers, was recognized by the United States Army Futures Command with the Command Care Award. This award was in recognition "for exceptional support to her community through dedicated and selfless service."
To receive this recognition was a wonderful experience. We are honored to continue to raise awareness of choking rescue options and to serve our community while building our son's legacy.
LifeVac is a non-powered, non-invasive, single-use only airway clearance device developed for resuscitating a victim with an airway obstruction when current choking protocols have been followed without success. LifeVac has a one-way valve that does not allow any air to enter a choking victim on the downward motion.
LifeVac is designed with a patented valve to prevent any air from exiting through the mask. This patented designed valve prevents air from pushing food or objects downward. This creates a one-way suction to remove the lodged food or object.
